Renesas Mobile Corporation, a supplier of advanced cellular platforms and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Renesas Electronics Corporation, plans to invest $115 million in five years in India.

On Wednesday, it announced the inauguration of its R&D centre in Bangalore which develops 2G, 3G and 4G modem technologies.

Renesas Mobile is a newly formed company and started operations on December 1, 2010 with Renesas Electronics acquiring the wireless modem group of Nokia Corporation.

Renesas Electronics Singapore, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Renesas Electronics, opened a branch office in Bangalore earlier this year to deliver to India the technology that Renesas Electronics offers globally, with the aim of doubling its sales in India to $100 million by FY2012.

Mr Heikki Tenhunen, Senior Vice-President Renesas Mobile Corporation, said: “In addition to 2G, 3G, and LTE, Renesas Mobile India is performing core technology development within TD-SCDMA and TD-LTE technologies.”

Mr Allan Frederiksen, Managing Director of Renesas Mobile India, said: “Coming from Wireless Modem group in Nokia, we are proud to continue the development of world-class technology in Renesas Mobile here in Bangalore.”
