The Coonoor Tea Trade Association’s 2019 auction opened on a happy note with as much as 90 per cent of the offer being absorbed despite the average price rising to ₹98.23 a kg at the first auction from ₹97.64 in the last auction of 2018 when only 78 per cent was absorbed.
Homedale Estate’s Red Dust tea, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped the CTC market when Tea Services India Pvt Ltd bought it for ₹253. Homedale Estate’s Pekoe Dust tea, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, followed at ₹250 in the Dust tea auction.
In the CTC leaf tea auction, Homedale Estate tea, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped at ₹222 a kg. Among orthodox teas, Kodanad topped at ₹276 followed by Chamraj at ₹259 and Kairbetta at ₹221.
