Demand for the hybrid finger turmeric increased due to quality but enquiries for other varieties were limited resulting in half the arrivals being unsold.

“All the 300 and odd bags of hybrid finger turmeric arrived for sale fetched increased price. The traders quoted higher price for the hybrid finger,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.

Only fifty per cent of the 3,000 bags of turmeric were sold on Tuesday. The hybrid finger was up by ₹300 a quintal. At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹4,299-6,377 a quintal; the root variety ₹4,099-6,199.

Salem Hybrid: The finger variety fetched ₹6,037-7,548 and the root variety ₹5,531-6,461. Of the 716 bags that arrived, 101 were sold.

At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,650-6,339 and the root variety ₹5,269-6,189. Of the 314 bags on sale, 267 were traded.

At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric ruled at ₹5,420-6,345 and the root variety ₹5,304-6,189. All the 457 bags found takers.

At the Gobichettipalayam Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,517-6,547 and the root variety ₹4,806-6,189. All the 160 bags were sold.
