Only 50 per cent of the stocks on offer were sold in Erode markets due to lack of demand.
“Of the 6,500 bags that arrived, 50 per cent was sold. Traders procured quality turmeric quoting a higher price. Fine quality Salem turmeric fetched ₹9,200 a quintal and all the 40 bags were sold. Traders are waiting for upcountry demand,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹6,077-8,589 a quintal and the root variety ₹5,868-8,099.
New turmeric variety: The finger variety went for ₹7,094-8,640; the root variety ₹6,909-8,139. Of the 2,355 bags that arrived, 810 were sold.
At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric ruled at ₹7,219-8,528 and the root turmeric ₹7,110-8,327. Of the arrival of 1,077 bags, 844 were traded.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹7,300-8,558 and the root variety ₹7,029-8,267. Of the 603 bags on sale, 515 were sold.
At the Gobichettipalayam Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric fetched ₹7,098-8,589 and the root variety ₹6,989-8,290. All the 112 bags found takers.
