Cardamom futures prices spurted by Rs 31.80 to Rs 1,397 per kg today, as speculators created fresh positions, driven by a strong demand in the spot market.
Restricted arrivals from the producing regions too influenced cardamom prices at the futures trade here.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange counter, March contract rose by Rs 31.80 or 2.33 per cent to Rs 1,397 per kg with a business volume of a lot.
Likewise, the spice for delivery in February went up by Rs 24.60 or 1.87 per cent to Rs 1,343 per kg with a business volume of single lot.
Traders said strong demand in the spot market due to the ongoing marriage season, amid restricted arrivals from the southern producing regions, led to an upsurge in cardamom futures prices.
