Dollar chana or chickpea prices are going through the roof in local mandis on weak arrival and demand in the export market.

On the spot, dollar chana on Wednesday soared Rs 250-300 a quintal to Rs 5,300-5,600 a quintal.

According to Mr Deepak Agrawal, a trader, low arrival (on Wednesday merely 4000-5000 bags of dollar chana arrived in local mandis) and demand in export and domestic markets is the prime reason for surging prices in dollar chana.

He said that if the current trend continued, dollar chana prices may touch Rs 6,000 in local mandis and Rs 7,000 a quintal soon.

Dollar chana saw a gain of Rs 350 a quintal in the container with the prices of 42/44 count of dollar chana being quoted at Rs 6,350 against Rs 6,000 a quintal on Tuesday. Similarly, 44/46 count dollar chana quoted at Rs 6,250, while 58/60 count quoted at Rs 5,375 a quintal.

Arrival of chana in local mandis was recorded at 5,000 bags. Gain in chana on Wednesday was mainly attributed to stockists' buying interest at the current rate.
