Jeera prices rose by 0.53 per cent to Rs 16,000 a quintal in futures trade today as speculators enlarged positions, supported by a firm trend at the spot market on pick up in demand.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, Jeera for delivery in May contract rose by Rs 85 or 0.53 per cent to Rs 16,000 a quintal with an open interest of 18,048 lots.
Similarly, the spice for delivery in April contract gained Rs 74, or 0.48 per cent to Rs 15,600 a quintal in 18,048 lots.
Analysts said pick up in demand at the spot markets mainly pushed up jeera prices in the futures trade here.
