Pepper prices ruled steady on limited activities and thin arrivals. No activities were reported from the national exchange, while on the regional platform day trading took place. There was no arrival on the spot today. However, 15 tonnes of semi-processed pepper were traded at ₹720 a kg and inter-State dealers and exporters were the buyers, market sources told Business Line. Following the onset of monsoon in the North, some demand is expected to develop in the coming days, they said. Sri Lankan pepper of 550 GL believed to be of old crop having 13.5 per cent moisture and 1 to 2 per cent external matter was reportedly being offered at $10,000 a tonne, they claimed. Spot prices remained steady at ₹70,000 (ungarbled) and ₹72,500 (garbled) a quintal. Export prices were at $12,500 (c&f) for Europe and $12,750 a tonne (c&f) for the US.
