Spot turmeric price fell steeply by Rs 500 a quintal, worrying turmeric growers.
“The four markets witnessed heavy arrivals of more than seven thousand bags on Tuesday, but the buyers, looking for low price, purchased limited stocks. Because of the heavy arrivals, prices decreased by Rs 500 a quintal,” said Mr R.V. Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
He added, “In Nizamabad, due to heavy arrival, prices decreased by Rs 800 a quintal, which has reflected in Erode also. Further, the demand is also very limited. All these caused the decrease in price of the yellow spice.”
In the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association Sales yard, the finger variety fetched Rs 8,509-12,366 a quintal and root variety Rs 8,003-12,166 a quintal.
