Spot turmeric prices in Erode markets edged up as limited demand emanated from North India.
“Turmeric prices improved marginally and sales improved at the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society due to arrival of quality turmeric. But overall, sales touched 2,900 bags against the arrival of 4,000 bags. Almost all turmeric farmers and stockists together hold over 25 lakh bags, awaiting a price rise,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric fetched ₹4,100-6,494 a quintal and the root variety ₹4,049-6,299.
Salem Hybrid: The finger variety was sold at ₹5,694-7,016; the root variety ₹5,394-6,409. Of the 884 bags that arrived, 211 were sold.
At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric quoted ₹5,694-6,529; the root variety ₹5,611-6,310. All the 562 bags found takers.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger variety was sold at ₹5,669-6,556; the root variety ₹5,609-6,315. All the 828 bags were traded.
