Spot turmeric prices increased at Erode markets on Monday due to higher upcountry demand. “Traders are showing interest in buying the hybrid turmeric, as they are having some orders for the same from North India. They purchased all the 700-and-odd bags of hybrid turmeric. They also evinced interest in buying the root variety turmeric and quoted ₹6,500 for the root variety,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
On Monday, 3,800 bags of turmeric arrived for sale of which 2,420 were sold.
At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric fetched ₹4,226-6,489 a quintal and the root variety ₹4,039-6,419.
Salem Hybrid: The finger variety was sold at ₹6,804-7,414; the root variety ₹5,591-6,550. Of the 637 bags that arrived, 247 were sold.
At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric ruled at ₹5,516-6,500; and the root variety ₹5,474-6,487. Of the 884 bags on sale, 721 were traded.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric went for ₹5,650-6,542; the root variety ₹5,617-6,445. Of the 1,045 bags put up for sale, 978 found takers.
