Dara wheat prices ruled steady at Rs 1,225-1,235 a quintal, almost unchanged since last weekend. For the finer quality, it was around Rs 1,245 a quintal on Tuesday.

Around 150 quintals of dara variety arrived from Uttar Pradesh, and about 120 quintals was offloaded by the local traders.

With not much demand in the market, prices are ruling without alteration since last week, said Mr Sewa Ram, a wheat trader. In order to maintain the prices, traders are buying according to the orders they get . Prices may continue to rule around current levels this week, he added.

According to market sources, the prices might recover from their lower levels from June onwards, as the arrivals come to an end and the demand for wheat and wheat products surges across the spot markets in India for the festival season which starts from August. Around 100 quintals of desi wheat arrived at the Karnal grain market terminal and was quoted at Rs 2,350-2,400 a quintal. Around 800 quintals of dara variety was procured from the Food Corporation of India by the flour millers on Tuesday.

Flour Prices

Despite a steady trend in wheat prices, flour rose marginally by Rs 5 and was quoted at Rs 1,240 for a 90 kg bag. Branded flour such as Ashirwad and Rajdhani were quoted at Rs 210 and Rs 190 for a 10 kg bag, respectively. Chokar prices continued to rule firm at their previous levels and was quoted at Rs 530-540 for a 49 kg bag.
