Upcountry buyers including industries have turned towards Karnataka for pepper where it is available cheap, market sources told BusinessLine. They said though it is of low bulk density, the availability has become a solace to the industry. But, the transactions are claimed to be taking place on cash-and-carry basis. The material is delivered in Delhi at ₹700-710 a kg, they said. High Range sellers claimed that buyers from Tamil Nadu were covering directly at ₹690. Spot prices were up ₹200 a quintal to ₹67,000 (ungarbled) and ₹70,000 (garbled). December, January and February contracts on the IPSTA were unchanged at ₹71,000, ₹63,000 and ₹58,000 a quintal. Export prices were at $10,800 a tonne c&f for Europe and $11,050 for the US.
