Small cardamom prices witnessed a firmer trend last week at the auctions held in Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
Individual auction average stayed between ₹1,012 and ₹1,050 a kg. The average at today’s auction conducted by South Indian Green Cardamom Company Limited was at ₹1,040.82 a kg.
Total arrivals today stood at 100.3 tonnes and almost the entire quantity was sold out. Maximum price was at ₹1,248/kg.
North Indian dealers were actively covering while the exporters were also showing interest to buy. Sharp fall in output during the current season is said to have created a bullish sentiment in the market, PC Punnoose, General Manager, CPMC, told BusinessLine .
Exporters were estimated to have bought around 80 tonnes of exportable grade capsules at ₹1,050-1,100. Good colour current bulk was being traded at ₹1,050-60.
Arrivals at the auctions last week dropped to 565 tonnes from 625 tonnes 635 tonnes the previous week.
The individual auction average moved up last week and was vacillating between ₹1,012 and ₹1,050 a kg against ₹949 and ₹1,004 the previous week.
Prices in ₹/kg: 8mm bold good colour 1,280-1,300 ; 7-8 mm 1,100; 6-7 mm 925-950 and below 6 mm: 850. Good bulk was being traded at ₹1,050-1,100 a kg.
