Chana continued to witness a downward slide on weak futures and slack physical demand from retailers and stockists. Prices in the past one week almost declined by 700 a quintal. On Tuesday, chana (kanta) in Indore mandis was quoted at Rs 4,400-Rs 4,450 a quintal, while chana (desi) ruled at Rs 4,300. Given adequate availability of both domestic chana and imported peas and the expected arrival of imported chana from Australia next month, rally in chana appears unlikely in the coming days, said Prakash Vora, a local chana trader.
