The market will re-open on Thursday after a fortnight closure for Diwali holidays. A volume of 19.30 lakh kg has been catalogued for Sale No: 43 of Coonoor Tea Trade Association with Leaf auctions scheduled for Thursday and Dust auctions, Friday. This marks a substantial increase of 6.44 lakh kg over the previous auction held a fortnight ago. Of this, 12.72 lakh kg belongs to leaf grades and 6.58 lakh kg, dust grades. As much as 17.52 lakh kg belongs to CTC variety and only 1.78 lakh kg, orthodox variety. The proportion of orthodox teas continues to be low in both leaf and dust grades. In the leaf counter, only 1.02 lakh kg belongs to orthodox while 11.70 lakh kg, CTC. Among the dusts, only 76,000 kg belongs to orthodox while 5.82 lakh kg, CTC.
Homedale Estate’s Red Dust tea, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped not only the CTC Dust tea auctions but the entire CTC tea market in the last auctions when J P Enterprises bought it for ₹236 a kg. Homedale Super Red Dust, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, followed at ₹221. In the CTC leaf tea auctions, Homedale Estate tea, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped at ₹216.
