Copper and nickel prices rose up to Rs 5 a kg on the non-ferrous metal market on Thursday on increased industrial demand supported by a firming trend at the London Metal Exchange.

Sentiments remained firm after copper in London rebounded from its biggest drop in three weeks as expectations that supplies will lag behind demand outweighed concerns that global economic growth may slow down. Meanwhile, copper for three-month delivery gained 0.7 per cent to $9,450 a tonne on the LME.

In the national capital, copper wire crap, copper wire bar and copper mixed scrap remained in demand and advanced Rs 2 each to Rs 504, Rs 527 and Rs 488 a kg, respectively. Nickel (4x4) followed suit and traded higher by Rs 5 to Rs 1,052-1,054 a kg.
