Spot turmeric prices decreased at Erode markets and only 55 per cent of the offerings was sold on Tuesday. Elsewhere in Gobichettipalayam, auctions were cancelled in view of poor arrivals.RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association, said that local traders have received fresh demand from upcountry merchantsExpecting higher prices, farmers brought more quantity of turmeric for sale. But prices were down by ₹200 a quintal for the finger variety, and for the root variety, they were up ₹100.
At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric was sold from ₹4,149 to ₹6,617 a quintal and the root variety ₹3,878 to ₹6,094.
Salem Hybrid: The finger variety went for ₹5,669 to ₹7,165; the root variety ₹5,229 to ₹6,269. Of the 989 bags that arrived, 117 were sold.
At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric fetched ₹5,619 to ₹6,691; the root variety ₹5,419 to ₹6,199. Of the 1,073 bags that were offered, 985 were traded.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,319 to ₹6,642; the root variety ₹5,069 to ₹6,296. Of the 540 bags on sale, 517 were traded.
