The price of turmeric was again decreased on Wednesday. “After a day’s closure of turmeric markets due to Bannariamman temple kundam (fire walking) festival was assembled on Wednesday when 8,000 bags was arrived for sale.

Traders purchased good number of turmeric for their requirement but quoted decreased price”, said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association. He said due to arrival of heavy stock the traders quoted decreased price and also the traders are very careful in buying the stock due to the financial year end.

Above all the traders are expecting fresh arrival of new Erode turmeric in the middle of April. The demand from North India has decreased during this week. He said only on average 60 per cent stocks were sold.

The finger and root varieties prices have gone down by ₹200 to ₹300 a quintal in all the markets. Some traders expected that the price may decrease further, so they are buying limited stock. The farmers said only after the Parliament election, they may bring more quantity with quality turmeric.
