Following a spike in futures, prices of spot turmeric too increased at Erode markets on Thursday.
“The hybrid finger turmeric sold at ₹9,759 a quintal – ₹1,600 more than previous day. The hybrid root variety was also up ₹1,500 and went for ₹8,923. This was due to the increase in price it the futures market and good increase in price at other turmeric sale centres of Nizamabad and Sangli,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
On Thursday, 1,500 bags of new turmeric arrived for sale and all were sold at ₹8,309 –up ₹300.
At the Regulated Market Committee, the root turmeric gained ₹400 a quintal while the finger turmeric by ₹100 a quintal. At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric ruled at ₹6,169-8,529 and the root variety ₹6,109-8,209.
Hybrid turmeric: The finger turmeric was sold at ₹8,239-9,759 and the root turmeric ₹7,819-8,923. New turmeric: The finger variety traded at ₹6,309-8,309; the root variety ₹6,134-8,109. Of the 1,808 bags that arrived, 675 were sold.
At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric went for ₹7,739-8,369 and the root turmeric ₹7,239-8,189. Of the 1,556 bags on sale, 1,509 were traded.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹7,369-8,499 and the root variety ₹7,019-8,319. All the 1,074 bags found takers.
