Jeera prices strengthened by Rs 173 to Rs 18,025 a quintal today as speculators enlarged their positions, driven by a fall in arrivals from producing regions.
Depleting stocks at the spot market also supported futures prices. At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, jeera for May delivery rose by Rs 173 or 0.97 per cent to Rs 18,025 a quintal, with an open interest of 1,737 lots.
Similarly, the spice for delivery in March moved up by Rs 141 or 0.82 per cent to Rs 17,240 a quintal, with a trade volume of 13,242 lots.
Market analysts said tight stocks at the spot markets following restricted arrivals on reports of unseasonal rains mainly pushed up prices.
