The price of turmeric decreased due to arrivals of poor quality.
“After nine days Diwali holiday for turmeric market, auctionconducted in all the four markets . Turmeric farmers have brought only low quality turmeric and some bags of medium variety turmeric. The buyers keenly examined the samples have purchased 40 to 45 per cent for their local masala firms . They quoted decreased price and still waiting for upcountry demand for the turmeric”, said RKV Ravishankar a trader.
He said many traders expecting arrival of good quality turmeric ,.1,800 bags arrived for sale.
Regarding the price of turmeric, finger turmeric decreased more than ₹800 a quintal when compared the last sale conducted prior to Diwali . Similarly the price of root variety decreased by ₹500 a quintal. Only few bags of finger turmeric fetched ₹8,100 to 8,200 a quintal. Similarly root variety sold for ₹7,800 a quintal. At the Erode turmeric merchants Association Sales yard finger turmeric sold at ₹6,008 to 8,109 a quintal, root varietysold at₹5,109 to 7,531 a quintal. Of the arrival of 1,008 bags only 256 bags were sold. At the Regulated Marketing Committee, finger turmeric sold at ₹7,291 to 8,291 a quintal, root variety sold at ₹7,041 to 7,849 a quintal. Only 98 bags were sold as against the arrival of 402 bags.
