Tea production in the Nilgiris, the largest tea growing district in South India, has fallen by 23.36 per cent in the first three quarters of current year compared to 2015 due to adverse weather. Tea companies have reported to Tea Board that their production till September has fallen to 9.22 million kg (mkg) from 12.03 mkg during January-September 2015. The five-year average production was also high at 10.95 mkg.
