Pepper prices continued to fall on Thursday on bearish overseas reports and weak domestic demand. Some selling pressure was seen from the plains of north Malabar and south Kerala.
On Thursday, 35 tonnes of pepper were traded at prices between ₹500 and ₹515 a kg.
At the same time, some demand started picking up from Tamil Nadu. Besides, enquiries started pouring in from north India, market sources told Business Line.
On the NMCE, February and March contracts fell by ₹792 and ₹733 respectively to ₹52,080 and ₹52,000 a quintal. The turnover and net open position remained of insignificant volumes.
Spot prices dropped by ₹100 to ₹50,500 (ungarbled) and ₹52,500 (garbled) a quintal.
Export prices were at $8,600 c&f Europe and $8,850 a tonne c&f US.
