Spot pepper prices declined on sluggish activities. No demand was forthcoming as the upcountry markets remained closed for Diwali. Only three tonnes were traded today at ₹685-693 a kg, trade sources said.

Spot prices slipped further by ₹100 a quintal to ₹67,900 (ungarbled) and ₹70,900. November and January contracts on the IPSTA remained steady, while the December contract increased by ₹1,000 a quintal to ₹63,000. Export prices were at $10,950 a tonne c&f for Europe and $11,200 for the US and remained totally out priced.
