Spot pepper prices moved up on tight availability of high bulk density pepper amid strong demand. Demand for heavy pepper is also reportedly on the rise from overseas markets, market sources told Business Line. As a result, Vietnam has raised its prices to $10,400-500 a tonne, they said. Given the present scenario, demand for Malabar is expected to emerge in the coming days, they claimed.Limited availability has raised Karnataka pepper to ₹615/kg locally. It is offered at ₹620-625 delivered anywhere in India. On the terminal market, 35 tonnes of pepper arrived and traded. Spot prices moved up by ₹500 a quintal to ₹60,500 (ungarbled) and ₹63,500 (garbled). Active contracts on the IPSTA remained unchanged at ₹64,000 for each contract. Export prices were at $10,400 a tonne c&f for Europe and $10,650 for the US.
