Pepper witnessed a firmer trend on tight availability of high bulk density pepper. On the terminal market, 68 tonnes of pepper were traded. The entire quantity was semi-processed pepper from Kerala’s Kannur and Wayanad districts. The material was being sold at ₹635/kg on one week credit, trade sources told BusinessLine. Spot prices went up by ₹300 a quintal to ₹61,800 (ungarbled) and ₹64,800. But, there were no sellers even at ₹670 a kg for heavy pepper, they said. On the IPSTA platform, June, July and August contracts increased by ₹506 to ₹66,506 each. Export prices were at $10,600 a tonne c&f for Europe and $10,800 for the US.
