Spot turmeric prices increased by ₹700 a quintal in Erode markets due to arrival of quality turmeric.“Knowing the non-receipt of demand for the turmeric from North India, almost all the farmers are bringing very limited medium variety for sale. The traders quoted lesser price and purchased fifty per cent of the arrived 5,300 bags. We are expecting fresh upcountry orders by mid-July,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.

The price of the finger variety turmeric was up ₹700 a quintal in the Regulated market Committee and by ₹100 in other markets due to arrival of quality turmeric. The price of the root variety was down ₹100-200 in all the markets.

At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,469-8,398 a quintal; the root variety ₹5,400-7,299.

Salem Turmeric: The finger variety fetched ₹6,236-9,410 and the root variety ₹6,106-7,509. Of the total arrival of 1,771 bags, 620 were sold.

At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric traded at ₹7,220-8,217 and the root variety ₹6,299-7,312. Of the 820 bags offered, 796 were traded.

At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹6,699-7,779; the root variety ₹6,111-7,099. Of the 1,366 bags on sale, 1,196 were sold.
