Spot pepper market ruled steady on Tuesday on matching demand and supply while the futures market witnessed no activities. Slowdown in cash-and-carry business due to heavy checking in the wake of election process arrivals at the terminal market has picked up. Nearly 50 tonnes of farm grade pepper were traded at ₹509-525. Reprocessed pepper was being sold at ₹520 kg. There were said to be buyers for Pulpally and Bathery pepper at ₹520 a kg but sellers were absent. The sellers are expecting higher prices because of the upsurge in domestic demand, market sources told Business Line . Spot prices stayed steady at the previous levels at ₹50,900 (ungarbled) and ₹52,900 (garbled) a quintal. Export prices moved up to $8,900 c&f Europe and $9,150 a tonne c&f US.
