Spot pepper prices ruled steady on Thursday despite buying interest from all quarters. Meanwhile, active contracts on the IPSTA moved up. Supplies continued to be higher from Karnataka, but at higher rates following strong upcountry demand. Besides, industry buyers and exporters are also covering. Arrivals from High Ranges of Kerala continued to remain thin. Semi-processed pepper of 550 GL density was being traded at ₹565 a kg. On the terminal market, 62 tonnes arrived and of this 48 tonnes were from Karnataka and the balance was semi-processed pepper. Spot prices remained unchanged at ₹55,500 (ungarbled) and ₹58,500 (garbled). May and June contracts on the IPSTA were up ₹493 a quintal each respectively to ₹59,500 and ₹59,497. Export prices are at $9,800 a tonne c&f for Europe and $10,100 for the US.
