The price of spot turmeric showed a dip on Monday.
“On the opening day the price of turmeric is sold for a decreased price. The traders though having no upcountry demand, buying very limited quantity and they are keen in buying good quality and medium variety turmeric for the local supply. But turmeric farmers who were in distressed mood due to decreased price for their turmeric brought only medium variety and poor quality turmeric”, said RKV. Ravishankar a trader. The price of Turmeric Futures shows a minus status and two per cent decreased in the morning. So the buyers quoting decreased price have purchased fifty per cent of the arrived stocks.
Regarding the price, finger turmeric decreased by ₹300 a quintal and the root variety by ₹250 a quintal in all the markets. At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association Sales yard, finger turmeric sold at ₹5,455 to 8,122 a quintal, root variety sold at ₹5,236 to 7,339 a quintal. Of the arrival of 725 bags only 279 bags were sold. At the Regulated Marketing Committee, finger turmeric sold at ₹6,969 to 7,974 a quintal, root variety sold at ₹6,779 to 7,474 a quintal. Of the arrival of 224 bags 112 bags were sold. At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, finger turmeric sold at ₹6,756 to 8,555 a quintal, root varietysold at ₹6,856 to 7,769 a quintal. All the 259 bags placed for sale were sold.
