The turmeric bags for sale have been increased. “On the weekend day (Friday) market, 8,300 bags arrived for sale. Of this 90 per cent are new turmeric. The traders purchased limited stock for their requirement and also due to heavy arrival the sale of turmeric was decreased. Most of the traders are quoting slightly increased pricepurchased all the good turmeric and some traders have purchased few bags of old turmeric for the supply of the same to the Masala firms”, said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard.
He said that no fine variety turmeric was arrived for sale. So the traders quoting decreased price for the medium quality turmeric have purchased some bags. He also expected that they may not received heavy upcountry demand till the completion of Parliament election in North India, but the local traders may buy some stock for their local supply and also for catering the committed demand from North India.
The price of turmeric was decreased at the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association Sales yard and the price roll back to below ₹8,000 a quintal on Friday. This is ₹400 a quintal lower than previous day sale price. In other markets there was no major decrease in price of both varieties of turmeric.
