Arrivals of turmeric to the markets in Erode increased on Tuesday.
“Totally, 5,700 and odd bags arrived for sale in the four markets, including 1,400 bags of root variety. On an average, 70 per cent of the arrivals were sold,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
Prices of root variety increased by ₹200 a quintal in all the markets and there was no major improvement in price of finger turmeric.
At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association, finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,139-6,509 a quintal, root variety at ₹4,719-6,009. Of the arrival of 3,697 bags, 1,835 were sold.
At the Regulated Marketing Committee, finger turmeric fetched ₹5,009-6,474 a quintal, while root variety fetched ₹4,819-5,899. Of the 700 bags placed for sale, 620 were traded.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, finger variety went for ₹5,191-6,599 a quintal, root variety was sold at ₹5,193-5,799 a quintal. Of the 1,184 bags on offer, 1,156 found takers.
