Spot turmeric prices in Erode markets increased on the back of quality arrivals. “Though 8,000 bags arrived for sale, the price was up ₹200 a quintal due to arrival of quality produce. Many buyers, despite the absence of upcountry orders, procured good number of bags. All the 2,500 bags of new turmeric have been purchased by traders apart from all the 100 bags of Salem Turmeric,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association Sales yard, the finger variety old turmeric was sold at ₹5,400-8,569 a quintal and the root variety ₹5,371-7,809.
New turmeric variety: The finger variety went for ₹6,810-8,799; the root variety ₹6,384-7,909. Salem Turmeric: The finger variety traded at ₹6,649-10,529 and the root variety ₹6,400-8,506. Of the arrival of 1,847 bags, 910 were sold.
At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric fetched ₹7,939-8,609; the root variety ₹7,467-7,995. Of the 1,661 bags offered, 1,506 were traded.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹7,488-8,600 and the root variety ₹7,189-7,839. Of the 1,994 bags that arrived, 1,992 found takers.
