A volume of 18.92 lakh kg has been catalogued for Sale No: 2 of the auctions of Coonoor Tea Trade Association for 2019 to be held on Thursday and Friday.

This is as much as 1.10 lakh kg more than the offer for last week’s sale.

Of the 18.92 lakh kg, as much as 17.55 lakh kg belongs to CTC variety and only 1.37 lakh kg, orthodox variety. In the leaf counter, only 94,000 kg belongs to orthodox while 10.89 lakh kg, CTC. Among the dusts, only 43,000 kg belongs to orthodox while 6.66 lakh kg, CTC. In all, 11.83 lakh kg belongs to Leaf grades and 7.09 lakh kg, Dust grades.

Homedale Estate’s Red Dust tea, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped the CTC market last week when Tea Services India Pvt Ltd bought it for ₹253 a kg. Homedale Estate’s Pekoe Dust tea, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, followed at ₹250 in the Dust tea auction. In the CTC leaf tea auction, Homedale Estate tea, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped at ₹222 a kg.

Quotations with the brokers indicated ₹80-87 a kg for plain Leaf grades and ₹115-125 for the best grades. For plain Dust grades, they ranged ₹84-88 and for the best grades, ₹120-128.
