Firm conditions prevailed in the wholesale grains market during the past week as wheat, rice and other bold grain prices rose on emergence of stockists buying following pick-up in demand against restricted arrivals.
Traders said rise in wheat dara prices was mostly due to increased offtake by flour mills, while non-basmati rice strengthened after the Government allowed one million tonnes of its export through private trade.
Wheat dara (for mills) gained Rs 10 to Rs 1,200-1,205 a quintal, while atta chakki delivery followed suit and traded higher by the same margin to Rs 1,215-1,220 for 90 kgs. Atta flour mills also moved up Rs 10 to Rs 650-670 for 50 kgs.
Maida added Rs 50 and sooji traded higher by Rs 65 to Rs 770-780 and Rs 825-840 per 50 kg, respectively, following shravan festival demand.
In the rice section, permal raw, wand and IR-8 were up Rs 50 each to Rs 1,850-1,900, Rs 2,000-2,100 and Rs 1,750-1,800, respectively. Sela gained Rs 25 to Rs 2,125-2,175 per quintal.
Jowar yellow rose Rs 40 and white moved up Rs 25 to Rs 940-1,010 and Rs 1,750-1,850, respectively. Maize rose by Rs 40 to Rs 1,160-1,170 per quintal.
Pulses
In a mixed pattern of trading, select pulses, such as gram and moth, rose in the wholesale pulses market during the past week, while masoor and arhar declined.
Market analysts said increased demand from retailers against restricted arrivals from producing belts mainly pushed up select pulses prices up.
In the Capital, gram rose Rs 75 to Rs 2,875-2,900 and its dal local and best quality moved up by Rs 100 each to Rs 3,300-3,400 and Rs 3,500-3,600 a quintal, respectively.
Both besan shakti bhog and Rajdhani traded higher by Rs 50 each to 1,400 for a 35 kg bag.
Moth shot up by Rs 400 to Rs 2,000-2,400, while kabli gram small variety gained Rs 50 to Rs 5,500-7,000/quintal.
On the other hand, masoor small and bold declined by Rs 50 each to Rs 2,550-2,750 and Rs 2,700-2,950/quintal, respectively.
Arhar fell by Rs 50 and its dal data variety lost Rs 100 at Rs 3,100-3,600 and Rs 4,650-5,050/quintal, respectively.
