The rupee closed lower at 53.55 against the dollar as month end dollar demand from oil importers put pressure on the rupee. It had closed at 53.37 on Tuesday.
The local unit has gained about 200 paise in the past fortnight after government announced certain 'reform' measures.
Intraday, the rupee moved between a high and low of 53.43 and 53.62, respectively.
Call rates, G-Secs
The inter bank call rates closed lower at 8 per cent from previous close of 8.05 per cent.
The 8.15 per cent government security, which matures in 2022, ended at previous close of Rs 99.86 (yield: 8.17 per cent).
