Mumbai, Jan 31 Asian stocks plummeted due to fears of unrest throughout West Asia and choking energy prices sparked by deadly protests in Egypt.
More than 100 people have been killed during six days of protests in Egypt aimed at toppling the President, Mr Hosni Mubarak.
Japan’s Nikkei 225 fell 124.37 points or 1.2 per cent to 10,235.97. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng plunged 274.85 points or 1.16 per cent to 23,342.17. Singapore’s Straits Times declined 36.04 points or 1.12 per cent to 3,193.65.
South Korea’s Kospi shed 26.57 points or 1.26 per cent to 2,081.30. Australia’s S&P/Asx 200 fell 33.5 points or 0.7 to 4,741.40. China’s Shanghai Composite was up 27.4 points or 1 per cent at 2,780.15.
