Omkar Speciality Chemicals has received its eighth process patent to produce sodium saccharin (2, 3- Dihydroxy-1,2- benzisothiazol-3-one-1,1-dioxide' from Intellectual Property India, Government of India Patent office. The process is safe, economic and eco-friendly, the company said. Sodium saccharin (Benzoic Sulfimide) is an artificial sweetener with effectively no food energy. It’s about 300-400 times as sweet as sucrose but has a bitter or metallic aftertaste, especially at high concentrations, the company said. Shares of Omkar Speciality closed at ₹15.30, down 2.86 per cent, on the BSE.
