IT player Wipro emerged the top gainer on the BSE in late trading on Tuesday. At 3.20 pm it was trading at Rs 563.90, up 1.37 per cent at Rs 556.30.

M&M rode up 1.32 per cent to trade at Rs 1,247.70. The share had closed the previous session at Rs 1,231.40.

Cipla perked up 0.79 per cent to quote at Rs 636. The share had finished the overnight session at Rs 631.

ITC rode up 0.78 per cent to trade at Rs 360.75 as against Rs 357.95 at close yesterday.

Coal India gained 0.70 per cent at Rs 361.20 as against Rs 358.70 at close on Monday.

The markets, which held steady in the morning session, lost ground by close on weak global cues. The overseas markets were weighed down by the continued slide in oil prices. The Sensex lost 160 points in late session to fall below the 27,500-mark, while the NSE Nifty gave up nearly 25 points to fall below the 8,300-level.
