Mr Dinesh Kumar Mehrotra, Managing Director, Life Insurance Corporation of India, has been appointed as acting Chairman of the Corporation for a period of three months or until further orders.
Mr Mehrotra, who is in charge of the marketing department, is the senior-most among the Managing Directors.
He joined LIC in 1977 and has held several positions, including Executive Director (International Operations), before becoming MD, said a press release issued by LIC.
After the five-year term of Mr S. Vijayan, former LIC Chairman, ended earlier this month, Mr Rakesh Singh, Additional Secretary, Department of Financial Services, had been holding additional charge of LIC Chairman.
Mr Vijayan, who had two more years to retire, is now continuing as MD.
Mr Mehrotra has two more years to retire.
