The Managing Committee of the Indian Banks' Association has appointed Mr M. D. Mallya, Chairman and Managing Director, Bank of Baroda, as the Association's new Chairman.
Mr Mallya will succeed Mr O. P. Bhatt, Chairman, State Bank of India. Mr Bhatt will be superannuating as SBI Chairman on March 31.
Mr Mallya's appointment will be up to the next annual general meeting of IBA, that is, May 27. The AGM will then take a call on his re-election as IBA Chairman till he superannuates in November 2012, said a banker.
The IBA's Managing Committee, at its meeting held on Tuesday, also appointed Mr K. R. Kamath, CMD, Punjab National Bank, as Deputy Chairman of the Association in place of Mr Mallya. The other Deputy Chairmen of the Association are Mr Aditya Puri, Managing Director, HDFC Bank Ltd, and Mr Alok Misra, Chairman and Managing Director, Bank of India.
