The instruction manual in most departments of banks is probably gathering dust. While old timers are aware of the existence of such a Handbook, not many that have joined the industry in recent years have even had a look at it, note senior bankers. That said, industry insiders stress the need for updating this manual, which Ch Venkatachalam, General Secretary, All-India Bank Employees Association, says, “has not been revised for long.” “The basic principle remains the same and these reference manuals serve as guides. If one goes through the content, he/she will have better clarity of the subject. Each of manual is department specific,” he said. “Banks have not addressed the cyber crimes issue; today there is an urgent need to safeguard the industry from such criminals, as banks imbibe technology in a big way,” he said.
