The first stretch of concreting work on the Shirady Ghat between Mangaluru and Bengaluru on National Highway 75 is likely to be completed by May-end if the statements by a government official are any indication.
Shirady Ghat is the vital link that connects Mangaluru to Bengaluru. The NH 75 has been closed for vehicular traffic for concreting work on the 13-km stretch.
Chairing a meeting to review the Central Government projects in Dakshina Kannada district, Nalin Kumar Kateel, Member of Parliament from Mangalore, wanted to know the progress in the concreting work on the Shirady Ghat section.
The official, who represented the National Highway division of the State Government, said concreting work has been completed on a 7-km stretch of the project. The remaining would be completed by May-end, he said.
On the progress in concreting an additional 13 km on the Shirady Ghat stretch, the meeting was informed that the Government had called for a tender to take up work on the project. However, only a single agency participated in that tender process. As a result, the Government has again invited tenders for the project. The tender documents would be opened on April 8, the official said.
