S Kumaresan, Dean, School of Mathematics and Statistics and Professor of Mathematics at the University of Hyderabad (UoH) has been selected for the prestigious Indian National Science Academy (INSA) Teachers Award for 2013. He won the award for his consistent and high level of teaching as well as his relentless efforts in continuing to nurture talent in the country. This is the first time that the award is being given to mathematicians, a university press release said. The award aims to honour teachers who have provided guidance and inspired students to take up careers in science and technology. All disciplines of science and technology, including medical and engineering Sciences, will come under the purview of this award. The award carries a cash award of Rs 50,000 and a one-time book grant up to Rs 20,000.
