An agitation for the revival of the Lower Painganga irrigation project in Maharashtra's Yavatmal will rock the state today. Former Maharashtra minister Shivajirao Moghe and fomer MP Naresh Pugalia, among other leaders, will lead the strike. The still-to-be-operational project was conceived in 1969-70.

President Pranab Mukherjee begins a six-day visit to West Asia on Friday. His trip would take him to Jordan, the Palestinian Authority, and Israel. In Palestine, the President will meet his counterpart and the leaders of major parties.

The Supreme Court will take a decision today evening on a crucial plea submitted by the Centre and bodies such as SEBI and the RBI. The plea has sought setting up a larger bench for modifying an earlier order restricting the voluntary use of Aadhaar card to PDS and LPG schemes only.

Counting of votes for elections to the municipal corporations of Bidhannagar, Asansol and parts of Howrah, which had been postponed by the West Bengal State Election Commission following protests over allegations of violence and rampant malpractices, will be undertaken today.
