The Kozhikode airport will resume operations of wide-body aircraft from Wednesday, almost seven months after such aircraft were prohibited from landing for runway renovation in May this year, the Airports Authority of India announced on Tuesday.
The first wide-body aircraft to land will be Saudi Arabian airlines’ Airbus A-330 which will arrive from Jeddah. The flight will operate three times a week, an official statement issued here said.
The statement added that the Airports Authority of India (AAI) had strengthened and re-carpeted the runway. The AAI has also increased the runway end safety area as directed by the regulatory authorities and installed simple touchdown zone flights on both runways. The AAI also did a compatibility study and safety assessment in accordance with the guidelines laid down by the International Civil Aviation Organisation as recommended by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation.
