The State Government appreciates the demand for setting up a department of ‘Ayush’, according to Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan.
He said this while inaugurating the 34th annual council meeting of Ayurveda Medical Association of India’s (AMAI) here.
POPULAR ABROAD
The Indian system of medicine is now more popular in places outside the country. It has been witnessing growth within the country in recent times but has scope to grow even more.
The Minister noted that the Indian system has failed to catch up with the stupendous growth in other branches of medicine.
Disputes over according recognition to traditional systems of treatment and trained practitioners need to be resolved so that ayurveda can chalk out a path of growth.
PAY PARITY
Presiding over the function, G. Vinod Kumar, president, AMAI, listed demands the association has submitted to the State Government.
Among them was parity in pay scales for ayurveda medical officers with those in the allopathy branch.
The number of seats in the postgraduate stream in ayurveda colleges needs to be raised and postgraduate diploma courses should be introduced.
AMAI reiterated its demand for recognition of ayurveda treatment in the defence sector and Indian Railways. The State Government should effectively crack down on quacks.
Various papers on ayurveda research and the healthcare scenario were presented during the meeting. It also hosted an exhibition comprising 13 stalls featuring ayurveda companies and products.
