Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, one of India’s most charismatic leaders who led the nation through several crises and held together a tenuous coalition with his inclusive politics, died today. He was 93. 

Vajpayee was admitted at the AIIMS on June 11 with a kidney tract infection, urinary tract infection, low urine output and chest congestion.

Calling the former Prime Minister a a "true Indian statesman", President Ram Nath Kovind expressed his grief.

 

 

Prime Minister Modi tweeted, "It was Atal Ji’s exemplary leadership that set the foundations for a strong, prosperous and inclusive India in the 21st century. His futuristic policies across various sectors touched the lives of each and every citizen of India.” Paying homage to the veteran politician, Congress president Rahul Gandhi said, "India lost a great son".

 

Businessmen too expressed their condolences.
