Our Bureau Amit Mitra, West Bengal Finance and Industry Minister, urged the cement industry to set up integrated plants in the State.
The State currently has 16 cement plants, but all of them are grinding and packaging units.The total installed capacity stands at 22 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) with Dalmia Bharat, JSW and Emami Cement being some major names.
“We are hopeful cement companies will come up with proposals for integrated steel plants here,” he said at an event organised by the Indian Chamber of Commerce.
According to Mitra, JSW Cement will double its capacity to 4.8 million tonne per annum at Salboni.
Dalmia Bharat Cement, whose plant too is located at Salboni, will ramp up its capacity to 4 million tonne per annum, while Star Cement is building Greenfield grinding plant of 2 mtpa at Jalpaiguri.
